Masters Thesis from the year 2015 in the subject Psychology - Clinic and Health Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, grade: B-, , language: English, abstract: The aim of the current paper is to discuss the negative along with positive effects of cannabis on health as well as the attitude changes of the individuals as to whether they are typical and ordinary or dysfunctional. The objectives of the research study are the following: (a) issues regarding its possible adverse effects on mood, (b) the therapeutic potential of cannabis, (c) check the dissimilarities on personality traits between chronic, non-chronic and non-users, (d) gender differences, (e) check on depression stages amongst all three (3) groups. Cannabis consumption can be controlled but in some cases individuals experience negative psychological and physical effects due to the fact that their habit turns into addiction. Many psychological studies linked cannabis use and schizophrenia as well as depression levels showing a weak significant association but at the time there are not strong considerable results to establish those findings. This study supports the attitude change of heavy cannabis users in a psychosocial perspective but also giving evidence that cannabis can be used for therapeutic action as it has a potential role in the treatment of convulsive disorders, neuroticism and gives assurance for future benefits in a great range of illnesses.

This book highlights current Cannabis research: its botany, authentication, biotechnology, in vitro propagation, chemistry, cannabinoids biosynthesis, metabolomics, genomics, biomass production, quality control, and pharmacology. Cannabis sativa L. (Family: Cannabaceae) is one of the oldest sources of fiber, food and medicine. This plant has been of interest to researchers, general public and media not only due to its medicinal properties but also the controversy surrounding its illicit use. Cannabis has a long history of medicinal use in the Middle East and Asia, being first introduced as a medicine in Western Europe in the early 19 th century. Due to its numerous natural constituents, Cannabis is considered a chemically complex species. It contains a unique class of terpeno-phenolic compounds (cannabinoids or phytocannabinoids), which have been extensively studied since the discovery of the chemical structure of tetrah ydrocannabinol (? 9 -THC), commonly known as THC, the main constituent responsible for the plants psychoactive effects. An additionally important cannabinoid of current interest is Cannabidiol (CBD). There has been a significant interest in CBD and CBD oil (extract of CBD rich Cannabis) over the last few years because of its reported activity as an antiepileptic agent, particularly its potential use in the treatment of intractable epilepsy in children. The Complex Connection between Cannabis and Sch...

The Complex Connections between Cannabis and Schizophrenia provides an in-depth overview of the current state of research into the role that cannabis plays in schizophrenia, covering both the pathophysiological and the pharmacological implications. It addresses the epidemiology of cannabis use and the risks associated with its use, the biological aspects of the drug, its effects on the brain and the pharmacological possibilities of using cannabidiol to treat schizophrenia. It is the only book on the market devoted exclusively to examining the links between this very commonly used (and misused) drug and a specific set of devastating psychiatric illnesses, providing a comprehensive guide to our current understandings of this relationship. Marijuana is the most commonly used illicit drug globally, and is becoming increasingly decriminalized and even legalized worldwide. Among the numerous mental-health concerns related to the drug, there is mounting evidence of an intricate link between cannabis use and schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders. At the same time, there is promising evidence to suggest that cannabidiol, one of the many compounds found in cannabis that activates the brains cannabinoid receptors, could prove to be an effective antipsychotic to treat schizophrenia. Synthesizes existing knowledge about the confusing, but crucial, relationship between cannabis use and schizophrenia symptoms Provides a comprehensive overview of the neurobiological mechanisms of cannabis use and its effects on the brain, including an exploration of the endocannabinoid system Examines the promising evidence suggesting cannabidiol as an effective antipsychotic treatment for schizophrenia Aids readers studying the neurobiological underpinning of cannabis addiction and psychosis in determining directions for their own future research

The Cannabis Manifesto is both a call to action and a radical vision of humans´ relationship with this healing but controversial plant. Steve DeAngelo, the founder of Harborside Health Center, the world´s largest medical-cannabis dispensary, presents a compelling case for cannabis as a wellness catalyst that must be legalized. His view that there is no such thing as recreational cannabis use challenges listeners to rethink everything they thought they knew about marijuana. The Cannabis Manifesto answers essential questions about the plant, using extensive research to fuel a thoughtful discussion about cannabis science and law as well as its biological, mental, and spiritual effects on human beings. With a cultural critic´s eye peering through the lens of social justice, DeAngelo explains how cannabis prohibition has warped our most precious institutions - from the family to the workplace to the doctor´s office and the courtroom. In calling for a realistic national policy on a substance that has been used by half of all Americans, this essential primer will forever change the way the world thinks about cannabis, its benefits, and the laws governing its use. 1. Cannabis: The Breakthrough Solution to Cure Dis...

In the world of medicine, experts are constantly looking for the right method to cure illnesses and diseases; they are willing to spend thousands and millions of dollars when it comes to research. Despite the state-of-the-art technologies that are created to come up with the most effective means to cure diseases or illnesses, scientists and experts still have not met the requirements to provide treatments that are affordable and have only a few side effects. For instance, people who are suffering from late-stage cancer may not get the real treatment they need. Costly treatments like chemotherapy may just help them relieve the symptoms and prevent the cancer cells from spreading, but will it take away the cancer? Sadly, no; the patient still continues to struggle and will not acquire the recovery that he or she deserves. On the other hand, there´s one alternative treatment that is deemed promising and a breakthrough when it comes to curing various diseases and illnesses, and it is no other than cannabis, or marijuana, a popular plant that is always associated with dangerous drugs and prohibited by the government in most parts of the world. Many textbooks, magazines, journals, and documentaries have been made about marijuana, and sadly not all of them are in favor of cannabis. This may be due to the stigma that has been attached to marijuana for several decades already. It can be associated with the extensive use of marijuana that can cause a feeling of being high, just as other illegal drugs do. This became more apparent in 1971, when President Nixon declared a war against drugs, and this included marijuana. Marijuana was used by our ancient ancestors in many corners of the world. There is evidence that shows that cannabis was indeed part of their daily activity, as several remnants of cannabis were found in ancient sites and mummies. 1. Language: English.
